Howard Matthew Brewer, 87, of Scottsboro died
Tuesday, Feb. 21,2012 at his home. Visitation was to
be today, Feb. 22, 2012, at Scottsboro Funeral Home from 5 p.m.
until 9 p.m. The funeral will be
Thursday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with the
Rev. Richard Tyler and the Rev. Duran Teague
officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in
Scottsboro.
Mr. Howard Brewer was a native of Jackson County
where in his early years he worked as a farmer in
Skyline. He was also employed by the Jackson County School System
for several years as a school bus
driver, transporting students to and from Skyline School and the
Jackson County Technical School (now
known as the Earnest Pruett Center of Technology) in Hollywood.
Affectionately known by students as
"Zoom Zoom," Mr. Brewer also transported student athletes from
Skyline School to numerous sporting
events throughout North Alabama.
Mr. Brewer was also employed by the Cumberland
Mountain Water Authority for several years and
was self-employed as a plumber and electrician, serving mainly
those residents along the Cumberland
Plateau communities of Skyline, Letcher and Hytop where he was
known for his generosity toward those
who could not afford to pay for such services.
An avid antique collector and seller, Mr. Brewer
enjoyed going to First Monday Trade Day, the
Collinsville Flea Market and a number of antique auctions. He was
also a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves
and University of Alabama football. Roll Tide!
Mr. Brewer led an exemplary life as a good
Christian and was a faithful member of the Letcher Church
of God.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Magdalene
Bellomy Brewer; two daughters, Delores 1. Brewer
and Ginger L. (husband, David) Brewer, both of Scottsboro; a son,
Larry D. (wife, Aigul) Brewer of
Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Doris Stewart of Atlanta, Ga.; a
brother, Clyde O. Brewer of Signal Mountain,
Tenn.; five grandchildren, Heather Crafton and Robin Howard, both
of Tennessee, and Matt Brewer,
Drew Brewer and Nate Brewer, all of Scottsboro; and four
great-grandchildren.
