Mr. Ronnie Lee Kirksey

Mr. Ronnie Lee Kirksey, 70, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at his home in the Pikeville community in Scottsboro. Ronnie was born on November 28, 1949 in Lansdale, PA. His father’s occupation as a steel worker took the family too many different locations. While living in Kankakee, IL, Ronnie decided he would rather live in Tupelo, Alabama instead; and at 12 years old, he hopped a freight train from Kankakee, IL, back to Tupelo to his grandparent’s farm, which would be the future home to his many beloved horses. Ronnie was 17 years old when he bought his first horse, Ingrid, also known as Greasy because she liked homemade biscuits. The love he had for his horses, and mules, was amazing and they loved him back unconditionally. Ronnie also loved trains. He took many excursion trips and was well acquainted with the railroad personnel and railroad detectives. Many times the train engineers would allow Ronnie access to the engine cab where they would exchange railroad stories. Ronnie was an avid reader and had extensive knowledge of German and U.S. history and weaponry. Ronnie was a unique individual, honest, generous, and kind, a master story teller, who will be sorely missed by his family and friends, and more especially, his horses and mules that now stand watching and waiting for him to come home. Ronnie is survived by his sister, Sandra Kirksey of Scottsboro; brother, Rodney Kirksey of Skyline; niece, Shannon Rae McKenzie of Auburn; nephew, Ted (Jennifer) Dawson of Harvest; great nieces, Chloe Bozzell of Auburn and Kylie Dawson of Harvest; great nephews, Michael and Matthew Blevins of Harvest; aunt, Shirley Holloway of Scottsboro; many loving cousins and numerous friends; and loving cousin Debbie Wright (Dennis) McCrary of Scottsboro. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Lee Kirksey and Daisy Brandon Kirksey; brother, Bobby Dale Kirksey; grandparents, Harvey Goodman Brandon and Mary Elizabeth Wininger Brandon and Johnson Winchester Kirksey and Mary Ann Bass Kirksey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Bro. Jerome Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Shelton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of service on Saturday.
