Mrs. Amy Collins Cameron

“The Lord is near to the broken-hearted.” Psalm 34:18a It is with broken hearts that we mourn the passing of Amy Collins Cameron, but we celebrate that she has entered heaven‘s eternal healing. Amy was born March 1, 1954, to Dr. Arthur Carl Collins, Sr., and Elisabeth Catherine Covey Collins. Amy will be remembered as a true friend, an encouraging leader, and a people person all her life. For example, she led the Scottsboro High School Wildcat Band as head majorette in high school. After graduation, Amy attended Randolph Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia, before graduating in 1976 from the University of Alabama. In college, she made lifelong friends from all over Alabama and beyond, including her sorority sisters in Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. Her matchmaking led to more than one happy marriage. After college, Amy spent three years in Washington as a congressional staffer for Bob Jones and Ronnie Flippo before she took a job as a tour director for INTRAV that arranged chartered international trips, including tours to Africa and the Orient. A natural at hospitality and adventure planning, Amy traveled the world while organizing and shepherding travelers in her care. She even called Australia her home for a period. When it was time to return to her Alabama roots, Amy moved to Huntsville and began a career as a sales executive with BellSouth. In 1989, Amy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). As she did with every challenge she faced, Amy tackled her diagnosis with determination, perseverance and a positive attitude. While living in Huntsville, Amy met her true love, Christopher Wilson Cameron, who took on MS as a full partner with Amy. They married in 1993 with family and friends from far and wide celebrating their wedding. Amy and Chris moved from Huntsville back to her beloved Scottsboro in 2004 where they were among family and friends. This world traveler continued to be a local leader. She and Chris were members of the First United Methodist Church, Amy was an active board member of Impact Learning Center, where she was instrumental with establishing Pre-K classes in Jackson county. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women. She didn’t allow the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis slow her down. Amy and Chris’s lovely home on the water provided them a beautiful lake view and opportunities for the lake activities that brought so much joy to both. Amy and Chris lived with courage, poise, and grace as her MS progressed. They traveled widely, often visiting friends and incorporating family gatherings into their trips. Amy was surrounded by family and friends when she entered heaven‘s rest on August 17, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Carl Collins and Elisabeth Collins and her brother-in-law, David Presley. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Chris Cameron, her sister Beth Collins Presley, her brother Arthur (Art) Carl Collins, Jr., her niece, Elise Presley Johnson (Daniel) and her nephew, Charles David (Chad) Presley III, and a beloved, canine companion, Camo. Amy’s extended family with Chris include sister-in-law Susan Cameron Vincent (Terry), brother-in-law Richard Kip Cameron, and many nieces and nephews who enjoyed years of boating on Lake Guntersville and Roseberry Creek. Amys friends were from across town, across the state, and even across the world and they all share in this loss. To know Amy was to love Amy. She was the epitome of a true friend, and she nurtured friendships lasting for more than 50 years, while always being open to making new friends along the way. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, Scottsboro, Alabama. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m. with the service at 2:00 followed by Graveside at Pine Haven Memorial Gardens.
