Mr. Joseph Edward McKelvy

Joseph Edward McKelvy, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on June 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Joe was born to Edward B. McKelvy and Nina Mae Terry, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Wanda Gibson and Dean Landers, and his beloved grandson, Eric Nelson. He is survived by his brother, Rickey McKelvy. Joe was a devout Christian whose faith guided his life and provided the foundation for the love, kindness, and generosity he shared with others. His steadfast belief in God was reflected in the way he cared for his family, friends, and community. Joe was the devoted and loving husband of Rebecca McKelvy for 49 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, unwavering love, and a fantastic sense of humor. He was a proud father to Tammy Johnson, Tracy McKelvy, Tonia Lawrence, Terry McKelvy, and Melissa Tincknell (Keith). His greatest joy was his family, and he cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a large extended family who will forever treasure his memory. Joe dedicated much of his working life to his trade as an asbestos insulator with Local 78, beginning in 1979. Through hard work and dedication, he earned the respect of his coworkers and retired in 2005 after a distinguished career. Outside of work, Joe was a gifted artist and woodworker whose craftsmanship reflected both patience and creativity. He loved sharing his craft with others, making personalized recurve bows for many of his loved ones. He enjoyed making wine, spending time outdoors, and had a deep appreciation for nature. An avid deer and turkey hunter, he found peace in the woods and took great joy in sharing those experiences with family and friends. Above all, Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was known for his caring heart, generous spirit, and willingness to offer advice whenever it was needed. His infectious laughter, unforgettable stories, and warm presence brought comfort and joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a unique way of making people feel welcome, heard, and valued, leaving a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Scottsboro Funeral Home on July 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
